• April in Sonoma County where I currently reside,  carries unmistakable momentum.
• Garden beds are being turned. Garage sale signs bloom at intersections. The days are longer and we have more energy!

• In feng shui, spring corresponds to the Wood element: growth, expansion, forward movement. But healthy growth requires clear space.

And that’s where the garage comes in. If your garage is full of “someday,” your future may be waiting at the door. 
Energetically, the garage represents movement and direction. It houses our vehicles -literally how we move through the world. When it’s congested with abandoned projects, broken furniture, and boxes labeled “misc,” forward motion quietly stalls.

Look honestly at what’s living there:

• Unfinished renovations.
• Old sports gear from another era.
• Tools for hobbies you no longer practice.
• “Someday” materials gathering dust.
• Before you host a garage sale, pause and .

Ask:

• Is this yet another unnecessary bin in my life?
• Is this someday project, something I will get to before summer, or is this another container screaming procrastination.

A garage sale should not be a transfer station for unresolved clutter. It can be a ritual of completion -a conscious acknowledgment that a chapter is complete.

Now step outside to your garden.
You would never plant into soil choked with weeds. You clear. You loosen. You prepare the soil with organic compost and fresh soil. Your home deserves the same care and attention when weeding.

In feng shui, open space invites new opportunity. It signals readiness. It tells your home: I am prepared for what’s next.  So clear what you no longer intend to grow. Release expired paint. Donate unused tools. Recycle broken items. Create visible breathing room.

This April, complete or consciously release one deferred project- be it the garage, the guest room that has become a storage room, the closets holding your adult children ‘s items.  Clear one entire category. Make room for movement.

Winter clothes take up space — physically and energetically. Try this simple question:
Would I be excited to wear this again next winter?

Winter often brings more time indoors — and more paperwork. Sort, shred, scan, and unsubscribe. Clearing information clutter is just as powerful as clearing physical space.
Kitchen Cabinets & Pantry
Let go of expired items, duplicate tools, and aspirational ingredients you never actually use. A streamlined kitchen supports clarity and better daily habits as we prepare to welcome Spring.

February Is a Clearing Month: Clearing Space Invites New Possibilities

February carries a quieter, more introspective energy here in Northern California. The days are still short, the skies often gray, and many of us feel the lingering heaviness of winter. February 17 marks the beginning of the Lunar (Chinese) New Year, a powerful reminder that new cycles don’t necessarily begin with doing more -they begin with clearing space.
In Feng Shui, clutter isn’t just physical. It represents procrastination, unfinished business, stuck emotions, and outdated identities. When we hold on to what no longer fits, we block the flow of fresh energy -or chi -that supports clarity, vitality, and optimism.

True decluttering asks a deeper question:
What am I ready to release so something new can arrive?

Beyond Physical Clutter: What Else Needs Clearing?
As you move through your home this month, notice what arises beneath the surface. Winter is an ideal time to gently release:

• Lingering resentment or emotional heaviness
• Obligations that no longer align with your values
• Old stories about who you “should” be
• Half-completed projects that drain more than they give

Clearing even one of these can feel as liberating as emptying a closet.

Uplifting Energy to Ease the Winter Grays
Once space is cleared, intention matters. Small shifts can dramatically lift the energy of your home- and your mood!

• Invite Light: Clean windows, swap heavy curtains for lighter fabrics, and add mirrors where they reflect natural light.
• Refresh One Room: You don’t need a full overhaul. Choose one area — an entryway, closet, cabinet or kitchen counter -and refresh it by intentionally removing and rearranging items
• Engage the Senses: Citrus scents, fresh eucalyptus, or simmering orange peels and cinnamon can instantly brighten a space.
• Bring Nature In: Even a single healthy plant or bowl of lemons can reawaken vitality during winter months.

Color is one of the fastest ways to shift energy. For late winter and Lunar New Year, focus on:

• Warm yellows & golds for optimism and mental clarity
• Soft greens for growth, healing, and fresh beginnings

• Touches of red (used intentionally) to activate energy and motivation (at entrances and in the wealth sector of your home

You don’t need to repaint- pillows, throws, art, flowers, or table linens work beautifully.
